In a mixing bowl, combine chickpea flour, rice flour, red chilli powder, turmeric powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, baking soda and salt.
Gradually add water to the mixture to make a smooth, thick batter.
Add the thinly sliced onions to the batter and mix well.
Heat oil for deep frying in a pan.
Using a spoon or your hands, drop small portions of the onion batter into the hot oil.
Fry the pakoras until they turn golden brown and crispy.
Remove the pakoras from the oil and place them on paper towels to remove excess oil.
Serve hot with your favorite chutney or sauce.
